Effective Date for Power of Attorney Amendments is Changed to September 1, 2009
In January, New York State enacted significant amendments (the “Amendments”) to the law governing the establishment, interpretation and acceptance of a power of attorney. The Amendments to the General Obligations Law were originally scheduled to take effect on March 1, 2009, but legislation has just been signed by Governor Patterson that changes the effective date to September 1, 2009. No other changes to the Amendments have been made.
